Within the framework of non-linear phonology, this book analyses the underlyingtones, surface tones, tone sandhi rules and morphotonology rules, and the phonetic realization of tones of each wordclass in Yongning Na. lt reveals that the underlying tones must be defined through examining the alternations oftones in various phonological and morphological environments, which suggests that the tone system is not fullyindependent from morphology. The perspective of typology is also notable.
