Acta Anatomica Sinica was launched in 1953 and is a high-level comprehensive academic journal sponsored by the Chinese Anatomical Society and hosted by the Medical School of Peking University.
1. The journal publishes original research articles in various disciplines, including gross anatomy, comparative anatomy, anthropology, neuroanatomy, histology, embryology, cytology, molecular cell biology, reproductive biology, clinical anatomy, and sectional imaging anatomy. It also features sections such as "Medical Education," "New Techniques and Methods," "Reviews," "Comments," "Research Communications," "Book News," and "Book Reviews."
2. Manuscripts should be submitted through the submission system on the website of the Journal of Anatomy (http://bjmu.edu.cn). Please keep a copy of the original manuscript. When submitting the manuscript, please ensure that the author information is complete. If the author information is incomplete, the editorial department will return the manuscript for resubmission. Please include a recommendation letter with the official seal of the unit, as well as the name of the funded foundation, the fund number, and a photocopy of the fund certificate. Also, provide the birth year, gender, ethnicity, birthplace, academic degree, professional title, email address, and telephone number of the first author, who is responsible for the research project. At the same time, declare that the same material has not been submitted to multiple journals (including international journals) and does not involve intellectual property or confidentiality issues. If any duplicate submission is found, the journal will issue a statement of duplicate publication and reject any submissions from the first author for a period of 2 years.
3. The length of research articles should generally not exceed 8,000 Chinese characters (including references, English abstract, tables, and in-text figures). Each paper can include 1-2 additional pages of inserted figures. Short articles within 4,000 Chinese characters (including Chinese and English abstracts) are welcome, combining results and discussion, and can include 1 figure. Please use "*" to indicate the project leader in the upper right corner of the Chinese and English authors' names. "Research Communications" should not exceed 1,500 Chinese characters (without figures, tables, references, and keywords). It can be written in English (with the title, authors, and affiliations in Chinese). Reviews are invited articles and are generally not open for free submission. They can include up to 50 references. Please provide the English title, Chinese Classification Code, and Chinese abstract (with a manuscript processing fee of 100 CNY).
4. For manuscript submission, please follow the formatting guidelines provided on the website homepage or refer to the sample papers, but use single-column layout. The main body of the manuscript should be divided into four sections: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Conclusion. Each section should be numbered with Arabic numerals to indicate the sequence and hierarchy, with a maximum of three levels. The titles should be concise and preferably in Chinese. The Introduction should explain the research objectives, theoretical basis, and background of the study, with a total word count not exceeding 300 words. The Materials should be integrated into the Methods section as much as possible, clearly stating their names and quantities (in accordance with statistical standards). Commonly used methods and referenced literature can be cited, while improvements and innovations should be described. The data in the Results section should be subjected to statistical analysis, without extensive discussion or citation of references. The Discussion should revolve around the research results, avoiding extensive reviews, and should not include figures or tables. The units of measurement should follow the international standards, national standards, and legally prescribed units as stated in the "Administrative Measures for Scientific and Technological Journals" jointly issued by the National Science and Technology Commission and the General Administration of Press and Publication in 1991. Attention should be paid to unit conversion between old and new standards. Symbols representing quantities should be in italics, using Latin or Greek letters, such as m (mass) and t (time). Symbols representing units should be in regular font, using Latin or Greek letters, such as kg (kilogram) and m (meter). When representing quantities and units in figures or tables, the standardized form of "quantity/unit" should be used, such as "t/h" (time unit/hour).
5. The English abstract and references should be typed with double spacing. The authors' names should be written in Pinyin (with the preferred transliteration indicated in parentheses for commonly used spellings). All authors corresponding to the Chinese names should be listed. For foreign alphabets in the Chinese manuscript, they should be written in regular script. If Greek letters or other special symbols are used, they should be annotated alongside.
6. The Chinese and English keywords should preferably be selected from the latest version of the "Chinese Medical Subject Headings (CMeSH)" compiled by the Medical Information Institute of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. If there are no corresponding terms in CMeSH, commonly used words can be chosen. The keywords should not exceed 8, with the last two items indicating the methods and materials used in the study. Please include the Library Classification Number for the article under the Chinese keywords (based on the 4th edition of the Chinese Library Classification).
7. The abstract should be written in the third person and should sequentially present the objective, methods, results (including key data), and conclusions. The word count for the Chinese abstract should not exceed 500 words. The English abstract should use grammatically correct language with the purpose of providing a summary of the paper, without comments or additional explanations, and succinctly describe the important content of the literature. It should contain the same amount of essential information as the paper, typically consisting of about 10 complete sentences.
8. Tables should be designed following the principles of statistical tabulation, preferably using three-line tables (top line, column headers, and bottom line). If there are totals or statistical processing rows (such as t-values, p-values, etc.), a dividing horizontal line can be added above this row and inserted in the main body, with a table title (in Chinese and English) and a serial number. The data within the table should have consistent significant digits for the same indicator and match the main body of the text.
9. Figures should be arranged in the order they appear in the text. Line graphs should have the figure number, caption, and explanation (in Chinese and English) below the figure. Photographs should be composed within a layout not exceeding 170mm wide × 250mm high, with good clarity and contrast. Scale bars should be added in the lower left corner of electron microscope and optical microscope photographs, indicating the length they represent. Figure numbers should be marked in the lower right corner of the figure, and the symbols used in the figure annotation should be in font size 6 in the Song typeface. The figure explanation should include staining methods and the scale bar.
10. The reference list should be placed at the end of the manuscript, following the order of appearance in the text. The number of references should be determined as needed, but should not exceed 25, and at least 50% of the references should be from the past 5 years. The format for citing references is as follows: [Journal] Author(s) (up to 3 authors, if there are multiple authors, list the first 3 followed by "et al."). Article title. Journal name. Year; Volume(Issue):Page range; [Book] Author(s) (up to 3 authors). Book title. Volume edition. Place of publication: Publisher; Year: Page range. Each reference should be marked with [M] (for monographs), [J] (for journals), [C] (for conference papers), or [D] (for doctoral dissertations) after the article title. Unpublished articles or personal communications should not be included as references. Non-English literature should be accompanied by an English translation (including books), and foreign journal titles should be abbreviated while Chinese journal titles should be written in full.
11. Abbreviations should be kept to a minimum. Nouns with fewer than 5 Chinese characters generally do not need abbreviations. For commonly known terms, the full Chinese and English names should be provided when they first appear. If there is no full Chinese name, the full English name should be provided. Avoid splitting abbreviations between lines.
12. Numerals: Follow the "GB/T 15835 1995 Provision for Using Numerals in Publications" [Beijing: China Standard Publishing House, 1996]. Use Arabic numerals for centuries, decades, years, months, days, times, and measurements.
13. The title should be concise, reflecting the theme of the paper. Generally, it should not exceed 30 words. Avoid using foreign abbreviations unless they are widely known. The English title should be consistent with the Chinese title and preferably use phrases instead of complete sentences, with no more than 10 meaningful words. Subtitles are generally not used.
14. The names of the authors should be placed below the title and should not exceed 8. They should be individuals involved in the topic selection, design, experimentation, analysis, able to modify and explain the suggestions from the editorial department, and agree to the publication of the paper and the order of author names. For foreign authors or the use of data from foreign scholars, written materials confirming their consent should be included. Foreign authors' affiliations should be written in their original language.
15. Once the paper is approved for use, all authors must personally sign the exclusive copyright authorization letter for the paper. The usage rights belong to Acta Anatomica Sinica, and Acta Anatomica Sinica has the right to publish the paper in electronic journals, CD-ROM editions, or other formats. The remuneration already includes the aforementioned compensation. Without the permission of the Journal of Anatomy Editorial Board, no part of the paper may be reproduced elsewhere.
16. Medical terminology should follow the "Anatomical Terminology" published in 1991 and "Terminology of Histology and Embryology" published in 1995. If there are no published standards, refer to the "English-Chinese Medical Terminology" published by the People's Health Publishing House. International non-proprietary names should be used for English drug names, not brand names.
17. Statistics: The specific name of the statistical method used, the software and its version, and the specific values of the statistics should be mentioned in the paper, along with the specific p-value. When it involves population parameters, provide the 95% confidence interval together with the significance test results. For quantitative data with a skewed distribution, express them using the M(Qn) method, not as mean ± standard deviation. The choice of statistical analysis method for quantitative and qualitative data should be based on the study design, data conditions, and analysis objectives. Avoid blindly using t-tests and one-way analysis of variance for quantitative analyses, and avoid blindly using chi-square tests for qualitative data. Descriptions of clear regression equations should be avoided.
18. This journal follows the principle of having a project leader responsible for the paper. All matters related to revisions, withdrawals, proofs, sample books, layout fees, notice of manuscript fees, and business contacts are to be handled by the project leader. If there are special exceptions, please specify the contact person at the time of submission. For papers that have won awards after publication, please send a copy of the award certificate and an explanation to the editorial office.
19. The responsibility for the content of the manuscript lies with the author. The decision to publish or not is determined by the editorial board, which has the right to make revisions to the text and figures of the submitted manuscript. The revision period is generally within one month. If it exceeds 3 months without a stated reason, the manuscript will be automatically withdrawn. Revised manuscripts should be accompanied by an explanation of the modifications made by the authors. After typesetting, authors should carefully check the proofs and return them as soon as possible due to tight printing schedules.
20. Upon publication, authors will receive remuneration. For original articles and reviews, two copies of the current issue of the journal will be provided. For research communications, one copy of the current issue will be provided.
21. Experimental animals should comply with the "Regulations on the Administration of Laboratory Animals" issued by the Chinese Academy of Sciences on November 14, 1988. When using late-term fetuses as experimental materials, they should not exceed 5 months, and an ethics committee certificate should be attached. When studying humans as subjects, an ethics committee certificate should also be attached, along with an explanation of whether informed consent was obtained from the subjects.
22. Starting from 1997, this journal has been included in the "China Academic Journals (CD-ROM Edition)." In 1998, it was also included in the "ChinaInfo" network resource system, "Electronic Journals" section, website: www.Chinainfo.gov.cn; in 1999, it was included in the "China Journal Net," website: www.Chinajournal.net.cn; in 2006, it was included in the "Chinese Scientific and Technical Journal Database," website: www.cqvip.com. The remuneration includes the fee for being included in the network. Authors who do not agree to have their papers included in the network should submit them to other journals.
23. Please send relevant documents to the editorial office of Acta Anatomica Sinica at No. 38 Xueyuan Road, Haidian District, Beijing, School of Medicine, Peking University. (Postal Code: 100083)
