1. Journal Policies
Earth Science Frontiers is a thematic academic journal co-published by China University of Geosciences (Beijing) and Peking University, which is available for distribution both domestically and internationally. Since 2006, it has become a bimonthly publication. Its charter is to strive to raise awareness of frontier research among geoscience professionals, promote the development of geosciences with frontier research as the driving force, and serve to accelerate the modernization of our country. The journal adheres to the Party's basic line, implements the "double hundred" policy, and the principle of "using foreign things for Chinese purposes," publishing academic papers reflecting domestic and international geoscience frontier research results and development trends. This is a geoscience journal that brings together comprehensive information and frontier research results.
2. Topics
Earth Science Frontiers primarily focuses on geological disciplines or topics that have a wide and significant impact on geoscience research in China and the world. It publishes scientific papers reflecting frontier research results, development trends, hot and difficult issues in this topic, and frontier research results in related branch disciplines and edge disciplines of this topic. The topics are frontier, basic, cross-penetrating, and large-span.
Each issue will still reserve "selected non-thematic manuscript submissions."
3. Submission Requirements
3.1 Content of the manuscript: The paper should have some literature analysis as the basis, show the domestic and international frontier research trend, and the analysis should focus on horizontal review and deemphasize vertical tracing. This journal mainly publishes frontier research results, supports beneficial exploration on geoscience difficulties and hot topics, and proposes innovative ideas and unique insights on major academic issues. The paper requires a clear point of view, reliable data, clear and concise diagrams; concise words, generally within 9,000 words, requires about 400 words of Chinese abstract and corresponding English abstract (result-type paper English abstract needs to be lengthened), and each is matched with 3 - 8 keywords. The main results are completed by the author independently. When quoting other's research results, the source should be indicated according to the relevant regulations in the "Copyright Law", and all copyright responsibilities arising therefrom shall be borne by the author.
3.2 Notes for submission: (1) The submission needs to be accompanied by the author's profile: name (birth year-), gender, degree, title, academic position, specialty, main research direction and the situation of engaging in scientific research. Note which fund (number) supported the study. (2) The names of the diagrams need to be in both Chinese and English, and diagram legends and captions do not need to be translated into English. Test data in the table should indicate the tester, testing method, testing conditions, measurement accuracy and error range, etc. (3) Legal measurement units should be used in the text. (4) Scientific and technological terms approved by the National Science and Technology Terminology Approval Committee should be used in the text (Terminology Online www.termonline.cn).
3.3 Referencing: The citation format of references adopts sequential coding. The literature is numbered in the order it appears in the text. The reference is marked in the text in the form of superscript in square brackets. For example, if there is a reference in a graph or table, it must be quoted in order and marked.
(1) The citation format of monographs is: [sequence number] author (editor). Book title [M]. Edition. Place of publication: Publisher, year of publication: page number.
(2) The citation format of literature excerpted from monographs is: [sequence number] author. Title [M] || compiler. Book title. Edition. Place of publication: Publisher, year of publication: page number.
(3) The citation format for literature excerpts from serial publications is: [sequence number] author. Title [J]. Journal name, year, ream (issue): page number.

(6) In references, all authors, editors, and translators are listed if there are no more than three. If there are more than three, only the first three names are listed, followed by "et al".
(7) When writing the names of foreign authors or editors, the surname goes before the given name. Surnames are written with the first letter in uppercase, while given names are shortened.
3.4 Submission method: Both the manuscript and figures must be submitted as electronic documents and hard copies (the text should be saved in *.doc or *.pdf format); all figures and tables should be incorporated into the text. In figures, use line-scale, Chinese characters should be in Times New Roman font (usually 7.8 points or 6 points), and English and numbers should be in Times New Roman font (7.8 points or 6 points), ensuring the content in the figures matches that in the figure captions and the manuscript text. For figures involving maps, the relevant provisions of the "Map Management Regulations" should be adhered to, download standard maps from the National Surveying and Mapping Geographic Information Bureau's standard map services website (http://bzdt.nasg.gov.cn) as a base map and strictly abide by the "Regulations on The Indication of Content in Public Maps" (2003-05-09). For example, various public maps with scales equal to or larger than 1:500,000 must not depict latitude and longitude lines and rectangular coordinate grids.
