"Advances in Mathematics" is one of the earliest mathematical journals in China that mainly publishes review articles. The first editor-in-chief was Professor Hua Luogeng, and the current editor-in-chief is Professor Liu Bin. The journal mainly publishes review articles and creative academic papers on pure mathematics and applied mathematics. Its purpose is to introduce the development trends of various branches of mathematics, reflect the latest results of mathematical research, promote academic exchanges domestically and abroad, and promote the development of mathematical research in China. Many older mathematicians such as Jiang Zehan, Ke Zhao, Duan Xuefu, Chen Jiangong, Xu Baolu, Guan Zhaozhi, Su Buqing have served as editors of this journal and made significant contributions to its running.

Since its establishment, the journal has been highly regarded by the mathematics community in China and has received high evaluations. It has played a positive role in promoting the development of mathematics in China, cultivating young mathematics workers, and broadening the horizons of science and technology workers. The articles it publishes have become one of the valid bases for various academic qualifications (such as senior titles, doctoral tutors, etc.). The journal is also noticed by international peers and has exchanges with many countries and regions. The readers of the journal are researchers in mathematics, university mathematics teachers, workers in science and technology, graduate students, and senior students.
